i ve put all songs of last cd on last.fm……..

tomorrow ( march 9), in Fryslan (Mitselwier) Hansko en Bas, active core of Plan Kruutntoone, play with Georgian Lepadatu in Sing Sing studio.
In three songs we’ll play some drums, klarinet, cembalo, double bass, fretless bass, saxophone, and do some singing and guitar…… Sick? Nee, plan kruutnoone plays as MANCO; marginal anarchist non collective….. Saroma!! a minimal impro blues duo meets rumanian reed master…..:-)

Hansko made some more music for the film, enjoyed doing so.

- planning for the naaldbergtrio (two of its members happen to be Hansko and Bas) to record a l’improviste a new -and their first- record in Molenzicht in Eemsmond. Gisteren gesproken met de eigenares van de zaak; t wordt de 10e februari, s middags. Hierbij vast t adres en kaartje
. Wie met de trein komt, kunnen we t laatste stukkie (vanaf Roodeschool)wel even halen.

Hoewel we ervoor kiezen om weer in kleine bezetting te spelen (leve de vrijheid!) zullen we ook een paar dingen uit het ‘Yoorsproject’ spelen. Onze laatste cd was geïnspireerd door het werk van schrijver en beeldend kunstenaar Jan Yoors, die zich op twaalfjarige leeftijd bij een kumpania van ‘zigeuners’ voegde. De Belgische dichteres Isabel Bats –ook te gast op Weerwoord- deed mee op die cd en is er dinsdagavond ook!
Als extra dichterlijke vrijheid baant Plan Kruutntoone zich met Lukas Simonis een muzikale weg door, onder, langs en onderlangs William Carlos Williams.

Vorige week (in Servie, op nog geen 100 km van Novi Sad) ontving ik van Bela Marias het volgende bericht:
no more tours to holland:u ponedeljak je u svojoj 89 godini zivota u novosadskoj bolnici preminuo Ernő Király, nakon sto posle godinu dana nije uspeo da seoporavi od preloma butne kosti.
Afgelopen maandag is, in het ziekenhuis van Novi Sad, op 89- jarige leeftijd de componist Erno Kiraly overleden.

…Waarin muzikant en meubelmaker Hansko Visser op zoek gaat naar het graf van zijn voormalige buurman, wat uitloopt op een zoektocht naar de buurman in zichzelf en naar de muziek en het instrument, die de wereld beter zouden kunnen maken, de mensen gelukkiger…Met een gedicht van William Carlos Williams, de stem van Klaske Oenema, het juiste fietswiel en symphonie ‘Uit de Nieuwe Wereld’van Antonin Dvorak.Ter nagedachtenis aan buurman Jaros.

Op 23 maart was de mislukte zigeuner (bv), zelfbenoemd orkestleider van Plan Kruutntoone’s ‘yoorsensemble’ te gast bij ankerman Jaap Boots van het radioprogramma cantina. Ik mocht mooie muziek meenemen, vertellen over het hoe en waarom van wat, als ik dat zelf al weet, en gratis lekker eten! Luisteren?

…23/3 speelde plan kruutntoone met bij stichting bobby kinghe, dordrecht; 24/3 in het poortgebouw te r’dam, 25/3 in de Pieterskerk in Leiden en 26/3 met klaske oenema en de reizende verkoper in bitterzoet, amsterdam.
met conny (foto) op accordeon en trompet en ivica op meesterlijke wijze.

…cd en boekje van een mooi pak (lees de recensie in OOR!) zitten in een enveloppe met de rest van de spullen, die iemand in zijn zakken had (kunnen hebben) toen ie ze leeg moest maken. Onder ‘emptied pockets’ (’pagina vernieuwen’), krijg je een idee van hoe sommige van die andere hoesjes eruit zien… De mislukte zigeuner (bv) doet zijn best om iedereen de juiste spullen (terug) te laten krijgen..

Hoewel de officiele release nog even op zich moest laten wachten (distributie, etc.) presenteerdede mislukte zigeuner een mooi pak /from all my secret pockets van (niet alleen) plan kruutntoone op 7 oktober in de Nieuwe Anita in Amsterdam. Met een mooi gedekte tafel (dank Olga) en Kanipchen fit. (dank Empee en Gloria)

En zondag 8 speelden we nog ’s in de houten ‘kiosk’ van Hilde en Paul, achterop het woonwagenterrein aan het Hoendiep 150 in Groningen.(verlaat de stad uit over de kade langs de fabriek, over t spoor onder de snelweg door en dan na de stoplichten rechtdóór: halverwege links. nee! rechts, natuurlijk). En iedereen was er: isabelle uit brussel; andreja uit zagreb; federico uit sicilie, ivica from outerspace, conny uit het negen maal negende land, de mislukte zigeuner goes lounge…:s middags om 16.00 uur… spelen, drinken, muziek, mensen… polako, polako….en ‘t was goed.

Igor Hofbauer, from Zagreb, showed his work the 3rd of june in het Patronaat in Haarlem, during ‘de nationale stripdagen’. We were asked to play at the exhibition.

from HumpaComa to Karpaten
Hof, as we know him, made the plakati for plan kruutntoone, whenever we played in Mocvara (Zagreb) and for several gigs with the yoors’kumpania in Slovenia.
We worked on a Hofworthy set and setting, with for the occasion some very old stuff (humpacoma) in a new jacket and new stuff (Karpaten) from the upcoming cd. We played with Conny on accordeon and off course with special guest Ivica Kosavic, coming in and going out whenever he sees fit…..

This year, finally, we managed to get to P.!

…where we played with Conny Essbach on accordion and clarinet, and for the occasion cooperated with Maksim Leonidovich Maksimov, Moscovian poet (Moscow 1979). A night outside with Krakovian sausage and the remains of a bottle of wodka (it was cold, the hotel was closed) and a last rehearsal in the park next to venue, brought us close enough together to do a warmly welcomed gig at the Skif stage (try this link to skif-site).

Good reactions: bartered one cd for a photograph of a stripped carwreck and even got a new button on my jacket. Very good deal. (when you know the song karpaten from een mooi pak/from all my secret pockets, you’ll agree….)

Jan Yoors (Antwerpen 1922-New York 1977). Painter, photographer, writer.At the age of twelve joined a gypsyfamily and travelled with them all over Europe. During second world war was their contact with organised resistance. In the Gypsies ( 1967) and Crossing (1977) paints the live of his kumpania and their fate in war. In 1943 Yoors got arrested by the Gestapo and was sentenced to death. By coincidence he was set free and managed to escape. A lot of the people of his kumpania shared the fate of most Roma and got killed in this war. After WW II Yoors lived and work in London, eventually in New York. Two wives gave him three children. Jan Yoors died in 1977.

Plan Kruutntoone played at some places in Europe since the second halve of the nineties. When travelling for music, or for other personal reasons through Slovenia, Hungary, Belgium, Germany, Croatia and to Serbia Crossing always formed a essential part of my luggage. Hansko, Rick and Bas each have a son.

…from these books we took fragments that struck us as strong and beautiful. They appeared to be focusing on live and death; on the (im-) possibillities of freedom; the fear to live as opposed to the will to live life, love, eat and spend at least a million…Thus inspired, we tried to translate some of our experiences into our way of making music and then invited guests from all quarters of the compass to add their views and comments and form with us a an orchestra for wedding, funerals, births and escapes…

the yoors’kumpania
for this project Plan Kruutntoone was happy to be joined by
Isabelle Bats (Bruxelles), poet/singer/actress; Ivica Kosavic (Gone Bald, Amsterdam): noble noise god; Andreja Kosavic (Zagreb): Ivicas sister, wears a suit, plays trumpet and sings; Henry J. Alles (Groningen): made visuals and samples to accompany the concerts and is one of the voices on the upcoming cd; Federico Bonelli (Amsterdam): roman futurist filmmaker, dog and deklamator; Gregor Belusic (Zoambo Zet Workestrao, Ljubljana); saz and Zabaplava. And of course Volken de Vlas (Friesland) on samples, trumpet and tuba.

‘throwing money around’
Wherever we play we try to do parts of the pogram in the place’s mothertongue, or the one nearest or in common… So far we tried our luck on serbocroation, italian, russian and frisian, with varying, but mostly great success!
Though one of the songs (Karpaten) is always sung in dutch, we ’scatter papermoney like decks of cards’ among the audience, with a ‘translation’ of the songs lyrics in english.
It is always a good feeling throwing money around, even if it is fake…

‘een mooi pak’
is how the album with the yoors’project will be named. We managed tot get everyone together in Milan Ciric’s studio in Metslawier, recorded and edited, mixed and mastered with Dolf (Doet Oren Lustig Flapperen) Planteydt and Zlaya at Loud.

(for the yoors’-project plan kruutntoone received financial support of the dutch ThuisKopiefonds. For concerts in Slo, Hr, B, and HU, we got support from the Fonds voor de Amateur- en PodiumKunsten en Stichting Gaudeamus)

(although not really a plan kruutntoone project, yet presented here; Hansko was in, Bas was in. First time working together with Conny)

In collaboration with video-artist Richard Neef, Hansko worked on a short theatrical performance in sound, text and visuals, with singer Rickie Edens, Conny Esbach on bayan, Thea Visser on flute and cornet and Bas, as usual, on (double) bass.A search in fragments of sound and image for the possibillities of sharing comfort over the borders of time.

This production was played seven times at the Pavlov PocketFestival, december 2005.
It was Pavlov Medialab that gave us the possibillity to make this performance; Hansko was given the opportunity to work as a guest-artist in the medialab in 2005.
Richard and Hansko are working on a video/dvd of ‘Dit lied duurt’.
